Anita Pointer loves Shania's music
here is some parts of a long article with Anita, one of the Pointer Sisters:
In 1974, they released a country song, "Fairytale," which hit No. 37 on the country charts. The sisters were asked to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, becoming the venue's first black female performers. When they walked on stage, one man in the audience stood up and exclaimed, "Well hot damn, them gals is black!"
Pointer still laughs at the memory of that.
"We were the first black (female) act to ever perform at the Grand Ole Opry," she says, "and I think we were the last. They said, 'Enough of that!'"
"Fairytale" won a Grammy in 1975 for best country vocal performance by a duo or group, and the Pointer Sisters were also presenters at the Country Music Awards in the '80s. The Pointer Sisters also recorded on the "Rhythm, Country and Blues" compilation album, recording "Chain of Fools" with Clint Black.
"I still love country music," Pointer says. "It's in my soul." She names Shania Twain, Wynonna and Faith Hill as some her favorite country performers.
But the Pointers are known for their pop/R&B sound.
this quote also says a whole lot about Nashville and grand Ole Opry, to where if a remeber right only Shania Twain was not invited to sing or being a member of it...
